Thoughts of the Day 3-31-09

Here are some of the things i discussed with myself today.

-If tater tots are mini potato hash brown things, what do you call those miniature tater tots? I was thinking tater-minis or mini-tots, but neither of those seem to sound great. well tot is short for toddler in the culture that i'm familiar with, so how bout tater baby? nah that just sounds morbid. like i'm eating a baby or something. while we're at it, lets rule out tater midget, midget tot, baby tater midget, tater fetus (that's awful..) or stem cell tater. More on this another day, i have some big people stuff to do.

-Is it ok to take your shoes off in a library? if so, can i put my feet up on the table or is that going to far. ..ok shoes are off, and the feet feel fantastic.. ok now i can see why shoes off is a not-so-great-idea, when you've been walking around a lot the dogs tend to smell like ... well, they smell like feet.

-that's a cool shirt.. but you don't go to Virginia Tech. If you went to tech, why are you here on a monday night? are you a grad student? If that's the case then I guess you can't afford new clothes, all of your money is going towards that hopefully useful master's degree you're pursuing. What if i started buying shirts from random universities.. How bout one from a community college in kansas. must look into this when i have the patience to find out that you can't buy tshirts from community colleges that don't have websites.

-am i the only one who could care less about "words per minute" in typing? I mean is it really that important? say i go to a job interview and it's on my resume as 90 WPM. would they time me? "alright mr. barrett we're gonna need you to sit at that computer terminal and start typing the words on this document. 3....2.....1......go." when they get to 60 seconds, and i've only reached 87 WPM, am i kicked out of the office for being a liar? I think this whole system should come with a scale of some kind.
if you can type 100+ WPM, you automatically get a job and a free world of warcraft account.
60-99 WPM gets you the job but you're forced to draft letters for your boss
30-59 WPM gets you the job only if you're an attractive young female
and 0-29 WPM gets you a GED.

more some other time.

Fight

So I was thinking about it last week, and i really wanna get in a fight. I mean a real fight, like straight up kick some ass and get beat down at the same time. I haven't been in a fight since I was 14 and I know it's about damn time. I've been instigating shit too, like sunday this joker decided to move my shit from my dryer to the counter event though it was still wet. I talked mad shit to this kid calling him a dumbass and egged him on, but the em effer backed off! oh well. It would have been more like a beat down on my end with nothing to block or stop.

Please, someone give me the opportunity! I'm considering going to the gym and then try and get someone to fight me. Maybe I should start smaller and hit up the Bar in Damon's first to get the sloppy drunks at 1 am.

On an unrelated note, check back later for an updated playlist.

Fate / Coincidence

I've always been a proponent of coincidence. I was never one to believe in a predetermined fate or destiny. I mean, this goes with my religious beliefs and those I don't think I should get into, because that's not what this blog is about. But what I would like to discuss is what we call "fate" or "destiny" and how it is compared to what I believe as coincidence.

For example; when I went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for every summer, we always drove over the Ocacroke Inlet Bridge. For three consecutive years, I heard the song "Here's to the Night" by Eve 6 while we drove over that bridge. That doesn't mean that song is some how connected to the beach in any other spiritual way than pure coincidence. Now maybe that's not a good example for you.

So here's a historical coincidence; John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 and both gentleman passed on the same day, 50 years later, July 4, 1826.

But what about all those million tiny little coincidences we have all the time? I personally believe those add up to mean something more. Is it a coincidence that my roommate and I, whom I've never met before we were randomly assigned to each other in August of 2007, have the same birthday? January 5, 1989.

The story of how Stephanie and I became friends reeks of coincidence. In the early fall of 2003, the entire Freshmen class took a test, I cannot now remember what the test was for, but it is irrelevant. The seating of the test was alphabetical, and somehow we found ourselves sitting across from one another during this test. Six months later, we met through friends and hit it off socially. We would have become friends regardless of our accidental meeting, but it's an interesting nonetheless.

There are many coincidences in all of our lives. John Littlewood, a Mathematics professor of Cambridge, has said, "...in the course of any normal person's life, miracles happen at a rate of roughly one per month." I take this to mean that of all the people in this world and of all the things that happen to us, there are little miracles in our lives that aren't able to be explained. Coincidence? I think so.

Bugs the Shit Out of Me: Bananas

OK before you get the wrong idea, I wanna say that bananas are quite possibly my favorite fruit. BUT what really bugs the shit out of me is when they aren't ripe!! For me, the perfect banana is yellow with some light brown spots on the peel, when you unpeel that shit it's delicious. no spots and so sweet. best thing ever. But when it's green? fuck that! I mean, that's like eating raw meat, it's just not ready for consumption!

Gone Fishing

I will be out of town and away from the laptop until Sunday night. JMU calls my name and I must answer.

Have a good weekend!

Chad Ocho Cinco

So I wanted to say how I feel about this whole name change thing. It's obviously a display of how awesome he believes he is, which I disagree with, and I think he's running out of ideas. I have absolutely no problem with him doing it, it's his right and it's his name. I will only start to dislike the situation when the media and ESPN inevitably blow up the situation come preseason.

Now I know that by me talking about it, I'm only exacerbating the situation, but I felt I'd share my position on the topic before the shit storm hit the fan.

Chicken Wings

Ok I'm tired of explaining how to eat a buffalo wing the RIGHT way at restaurants so here it goes:

{WARNING]
If you are not ready to read a description of bones, joints, and dismantling the wing of a chicken, just skip this article and move on. I don't want to offend anyone by describing the pieces and comparing them to the parts of a human arm, but that is the easiest simile to make.
{WARNING}

First, let's talk about what is on the plate in front of you.

There are these things

and these things.

The first is referred to as the "drumstick" or "little leg thingy" to amateurs. In reality, it is actually the first part of the three piece chicken wing. The fat end is connected to the chicken as it's "shoulder". This piece is what you would consider your bicep and quadricep of your upper arm. The thinner end, or elbow is connected to the next piece, the "wing". This second pice is what you would think of as your forearm. It has two bones (radius and ulna for us human types) that then connect to the third and final piece of the wing. This third piece is commonly used for chicken stock and you won't see it on your plate at a hooters.

When eating chicken wings, a lot of people will go for the first section or "drumstick" because there is absolutely no thought process necessary to eat it. You grab, you may dunk it in blue cheese, then you consume. I, personally, prefer the "wing" portion of the plate because there is more meat, less bone, and you look like you know what you're doing.

So, step one to consuming the "wing".
Firmly grasp the piece and push your finger in between the two bones. You are separating smaller bone from the larger so that you can easily eat the meat. The bones connect at either end of the "wing" but on one of the ends, the connection is weak and can easily be broken.

Step two.
Break this connection. you can then lift the smaller bone away from the larger one and disconnect the other "joint" at the opposite end of the piece. You now have two separate pieces. Eat the meat off the smaller one. Set aside the small bone after you've eaten the meat off of it, and prepare for..

Step three.
What you have left in front of you is the larger of the two bones with all the meat still intact. Using your forefinger and thumb to disconnect the meat from the "lose connection" end that we talked about in step one. All the meat is now only connected to one end.

Finally, step four.
With one bite, you can eat all of the remaining meat. For those of you smaller mouthed people, take your time eating it.

Well now you know how to tackle the real chicken wing. Impress your friends.

Pop-Up Life

So if anyone out there is unfamiliar with "pop up video" you should follow this link and educate yourself.

So what if life had a pop up video? It's times like now that I wish I had some knowledge of video editing and a camera with the capabilities to record such an event, but alas, I am lacking.

Instead, I must ask you to imagine the awesomeness of a real-life pop up experience. I personally picture it from the third person perspective, as If i'm watching someone experiencing this phenomenon and freaking out about it. I mean, if you were walking down the street and random bubbles just popped out of nowhere stating, "the clothes he's wearing is actually the same exact outfit he wore the previous Monday!" Or how bout when the person is fleeing the bubbles and escapes into the public restroom only to find a bubble erupting behind him stating, "this bathroom was originally a bowling alley but was converted in 1988 after a bad fire!"

I must think about possibly writing down these ideas. I bet someone would pay money for it on one of them websites on them internets.

3.24.2009

Break you're mother's back.

George Mason University's campus is riddled with sidewalks and paths, most of which I use on a daily basis. If you've ever seen me walk, I take a pretty speedy pace. Generally this is due to the fact that I avoid stepping on cracks.
I know, what am I like 8?
I've gotten so used to the length my stride needs to be to avoid the cracks that I don't even have to look down anymore. And just to be clear, when I say "crack" I mean the man-made separation between sidewalk squares, the natural cracks that are very large, or the change in building material (sidewalk to brick etc) or tile colors indoors.

Now that I'm thinking about it, did anyone else avoid a certain tile color when they were in school? I remember my elementary school had different color floor tiles in some weird pattern and I'd avoid stepping on the red or green or what have you and I'd pretend it was lava.

I don't know why avoid the cracks, I guess i make a game out of it when I walk. It's not just when i'm walking alone, i do it when I'm with people. Maybe i've done it with you, the reader, and you didnt notice it.

Bugs the Shit Out of Me: Gyms

I'm starting a new thing, this is basically me venting about something that bugs me. It obviously isn't a unique idea but hey, everyone has to let out some steam. Today is just the first time i've posted it and given it a title.

Gyms

what really bugs the shit out of me about gyms is the people who go there. There are basically 4 different kinds;

1) the music heads - These are the one's that don't effect me that much but do get annoying to many others. When I work out, I bring my iPod to kinda keep me in a rhythm while i'm running or cycling or even lifting. but some people take this opportunity to blast their music in their headphones and tune out all of their problems but crank a new one up for the rest of us! I mean, just because you're on your period or you're cheating on your girlfriend, or you just had a shitty childhood, doesn't mean you can crank "ghetto rap" so i can't hear the game on TV number 5. turn it down, or buy some bose.

2) the sweaty em-effers - You ever use a machine, say for your biceps, and you have to lean against a back rest for support. Or you bench press, or even do leg presses, both with a back support. Well when you're done, you go grab the towel and spray and clean your shit off right? you would if you were a good decent person, but not if you're a sweaty em-effer. those people think their shit don't stink and they don't produce sweat. I think their delusional. clean you're sweat or i'll punch you in the back of the head.

3) the machine abusers - OK so here's the scenario. You just finished your'e two mile run and then hopped on the bike. you then did you're routine 6 mile push over about a 25 minute lapse, feeling pretty good about yourself. Because it's Thursday, you then need to head over to the machines and hit up that one machine that you don't have a name for. you've been considering Alfred because it works your arms, but then you think "that's a stupid name" and you look up and this guy's using the machine. Ok... i'll wait on this other machine and use it til he's done.

He's still there.. it's been 8 minutes. you counted. and he's still there. I mean don't his arm's get tired? You've been alternating through machines but he hasn't budged. you give up and leave frustrated. So to all you machine abusers, watch out. you're on my list.

and finally,
4) the staring creepers - self explanatory but here's an example: I run on the treadmill as a warm-up on most days. We have a lot of windows at the gym i use, and i night they are basically mirrors. So why is it that there's always that guy staring at other people? I mean i see him using the window as a creeper tool. hell i think he glances at me. and it's worse when he's on the treadmill too, cause than he tries to race me or something. what a tool. during the day when the windows are just windows, there are the people who walk by and stare at anyone on the treadmills. it's just creepy. I know i look good in a tank top but come on.

..that was a joke btw.

Weekend at UVA

So i'm way behind (as usual when I go away) so expect some fluff in the next few days. I will also prepare for being away this coming weekend as well.

I went to UVA this past weekend and it was amazing, as always. I saw the whispering wall for the first time which was awesome and I got a great tour of the campus from the Ms. Zoe Ortiz.

Sadly, we watched Twilight Saturday afternoon, I lost another two hours of my life. What a waste. Awful movie...

Overall it was an awesome weekend, and I look forward to my visit this coming weekend at James Madison. Should be amazing!

Street Lights

Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm not. I don't know. But what I do know is that numerous times during my life on this planet a streetlight will suddenly turn on or off without explanation as I am right beneath it.

The most memorable of these occurrences actually happened quite a lot. On trips to and from a girlfriends house, one particular light would always go on or off when I drove past it. This happened every single time. There are no exceptions.

Does anyone else have this happen to them? Am i paranoid?

Tonight while walking on campus, a streetlight popped on above me just outside of lecture hall. Another switched off just as I passed beneath it, this time several moments later and on the other end of campus.

The only rational explanation that I can think of is the lights are on a timer, and I just happen to be very lucky (or unlucky) and catch the lights as the transition to and from "power save mode". In reality, I think there is someone hiding behind a tree with a light control.

The air we breathe

I think it's funny that there is a common misconception about the air that we breath is Oxygen. Generally, people believe that what we breath and what the atmosphere is made of is all oxygen. But in reality, what you may think is far from the truth.

True, we do breath in oxygen. Plant's produce it as a byproduct of photosynthesis. But we're actually breathing in a lot more of that. The "air" that we breath is about 21% Oxygen, and 78% Nitrogen by volume. The Oxygen enters our bloodstream and through the whole process, we exhale Carbon Dioxide, which, in turn, goes right back to the plants in their process of photosynthesis.

So yea we do need oxygen to survive, that was never my argument, I just think it's interesting that most of the Earth's atmosphere is Nitrogen and not what we think it is, Oxygen.

Study Abroad

Apart from the obvious jokes that I think of every time "study abroad" comes into conversation, I think it's a pretty cool idea.

ok fine, "study abroad! which one?!"

heyuck heyuck lets move on.

So i've visited the information booths, i carried the pink flyers across campus and tried to hide the fluorescence under my arm/in my notebook to no avail. I've been to the website, I've seen the blogs, I wanna do it.

So what's stopping me? Nothing. I'm gonna do it. If I can find a class that fits my needs and costs me little to nothing extraordinary, I'm gone for a month.

So i pose the question (which will inevitably go unanswered) if you were to study a broad (ha!) where would you go?

My top 10:
Athens
London
Rome
Paris
Barcelona/Madrid
Lisbon
Lima
Buenos Aires
Dublin
Moscow

Rome is the only one i could find that I could actually use towards my degree. BUT it's a whopping 4700 without airfare. soo we're looking at about 6000 for 3 credits over two weeks in Italy in the winter. Is it worth it? I think maybe.. but I don't wanna miss my 21st birthday on my home soil.

The August/Mom Bracket

This should be good.

Rocket Science it is not.

So I recently heard the phrase "it's not rocket science" uttered by a friend referring to a task that was not difficult. I wanted to know what rocket science actually is and I discovered that "Rocket Science" is actually not the technical term. "Aerospace Engineering" is more acceptable.

huh. so Rocket Science isn't exactly rocket science now is it?

Bracketology

I absolutely love March. Everyone loves the site of some midmajor school owning a big conference team during the season, but how about those buzzer beaters to set lowly conference teams over their ranked supposed conference champs during the tourney?

About this time every year, and for about a month before and during the NCAA tournament, we hear the phrases "bracket" "bracket buster" "on the bubble" and "popped bubble" or "bubble has busted".

I like these ideas, but I think they make the sport of college basketball sound almost like a saturday morning cartoon. Now i'm not going to complain about every little thing i write on this blog, but I would like to say that basketball and bubbles are as different as the little boys and little girls that respectively played them on a summer afternoon in between third and fourth grade.

However, I can't get enough of this environment and I look forward to seeing the brackets released tomorrow and I will surely post one of my brackets by monday or tuesday as a large image on this blog.

Good luck to all you bracket professors out there.

Joe Boxer Returns

Swedish Golfer Henrik Stenson apparently played a hole in his underwear yesterday, wow.

So from what I've heard, he landed his ball in the mud off the tee shot on the Par 4 Hole 3. To avoid getting dirty, he stripped down to play the shot in his underwear.

Here's what I think, given this was day one on the third hole, which was probably only his 8th shot of the day, I'll let it slide. I mean if he's on the 16th hole, then he should play out the day with a muddy shirt and roll up your pant legs, but because he would have had to play the whole day with mud caked on his shirt, there is some leeway here.

However, he lost MAJOR dude points for doing it. Not because he is "gay" or anything childish like that for taking his shirt off, but because he did it to avoid getting dirty. Are you kidding me Henrik?

Literally

"Literally," by definition, is in the literal or strict sense.

SO WHY DO PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO MISUSE IT?

I know people like to use the word "literally" when describing something that happened with an emphasis on how amazing it was, for example

"Gosh I'm literally starving"

They mean that they are REALLY hungry, but they said they are starving in the literal sense or, by definition, in severe need and currently lacking nourishment.

literally was misused in this sense, but i can understand the mistake.

Please take this lesson and consider the word "literally" before you use it. Or I will literally lose all respect for you.

Just a quick note today, got a count down to Opening Day up to the right. I'll write more later. Enjoy College Bball.

Mason and VCU advanced to the Final game of the CAA tournament tonight, and as expected (but certainly hoped against) Mason was defeated, soundly i might add, by VCU 71-50. Embarrassing.

Spiderman

Is there a better superhero?

Let's consider the strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths:
Super Strength
Super Speed
Spider Sense
that whole web thing
Wall Climbing
Awesome Costume
He's a normal human, with extra abilities
Mary Jane. Duh!

Weaknesses:
He's a normal human and therefore has friends and family to feed off of
He is not immortal
and he must keep his identity secret or face certain death.

I mean come on, he's like the best superhero ever! I welcome open criticism.

CAA Tourney Continued...

I was wrong in my assumption that NU would out last Towson, but I correctly predicted the Mason and ODU victories.

Tonight VCU will win and Mason will win. Let's see if I can find it on tv!

3.07.2009

CAA Tourney

The CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Men's Basketball Tournament started Friday this weekend, and here's a quick run-down of how I believe it's gonna play out.

Last Night;
Towson Defeated Drexel, 73-62
James Madison Dominated William & Mary, 70-48
Hofstra topped UNC Wilmington 79-66
and Georgia St. surprised Delaware, 54-41

This morning;
VCU knocked the surging Panthers (GSU) 62-51
and as I am writing this, Hofstra and ODU are fighting it out with Hofstra on top 29-28 at the Half.

I foresee ODU pulling it out in a close one to move on to the Semis tomorrow.

Tonight;
Mason plays the home team in Richmond against James Madison
and Northeastern will try to survive against Towson.

Mason should squeeze it out against Madison and Northeastern is the better team in the late game and I see them moving on to Sunday. These two will meet Sunday evening and Mason will best Northeastern to move on to the CAA championship for the 3rd consecutive year.
VCU will face ODU as the early game Sunday and VCU should move on as the favorite to win it all.

Monday Night will have the championship game with Mason and VCU head to head for only the second time this season. VCU got the best of Mason in the earlier contest, but I think Mason will prevail and be only the fourth CAA team to win back to back tourney rings.

Dude I'm way behind in my posts bro.

So i have fallen very behind on my posts as of late. I attribute that to working late wednesday and thursday and having my laptop away from me friday night while i was with my broseph JD.

I'm sorry for using the word broseph, that was in appropriate.

Speaking of broseph, I hate the phrase "bro". I mean it's such a faggy-frat-boy phrase. "Dude bro, could you hold my cup for me while i fondle your nuts? I love you too bro!" I'm a pretty relaxed guy, but if you call me "bro" I will straight up murder you. no lie.

Broseph
Brofist
Bromosexual
Brosauce

anything following the word bro, other than "ther", "om", "il", "ad", or "ccolli" should be banned, pending further review.

Tommy Boy is on.... or is it Black Sheep?

I mean, why did they release the same exact movie twice? I love me some Chris Farley, but it's essentially the same movie! Compare for yourself.

Seriously go watch them. Back to back.

Go ahead I'll wait.

Here's a link to a clip of each one if you dont have the movie: Tommy Boy Black Sheep

so really, go watch them, then come back. open up a new window for the clips.

so how was it? Did you enjoy them? Same character dynamic huh. Yea i know, that's what I thought. Did you think one was better than the other? No? Yea they are like the same movie aren't they!

February is ova for another 337 days.

First, a note that i'm pretty impressed with myself for being able to keep up with this on a daily basis so far. it's not often i follow through with something that really has no benefit.

Why is february shorter than all the other months? I mean i'm sure there's a real reason that i don't care to look up right now, but who pissed off who? You think some roman guy named februar was a total dick to the other romans, but he invented something awesome like a manhole cover or something. So he needed a month named after him, but they were like to hell with that guy, give him 28 days when everyone else gets 30-31.
But years later when we realized we needed a leap year, we all felt bad that februar was gettin screwed every year.

BP Jersey

So probably the best find of the week in the Merch closet at the Pfitz, this BP jersey from god knows when. I can't even confirm if it was worn or a giveaway or what, but the pics are below:

And here's the weird part; as you can see from the first picture, there is no laundry tag on the front, but really, there is!

it was sewn onto the inside of the jersey, upside down. is this a common occurence in Rawlings BP jerseys?

Rainy Day Women #12 & 35

Another beautiful day, and it's not even March. It won't last, as by the end of Sunday we'll have fallen back into the cold and windy state that we suffered through all this past week. One can only hope for Hockey and College Basketball to ease the pain. Oh yea and spring training too.

Why on earth did Bob Dylan name it that?

here's the interpretation from a few sources, although i don't know how credible it is:
"...I asked the question here about a month ago, and someone told me
that the only thing Dylan said about it, was that as he was recording
the song, a mother and daughter walked into the studio drenched due to
the rainy day outside. Mother was 35, daughter 12."
and a quote from Dylan himself:
"...Well, you know my songs are all mathematical songs. Now, you know what
that means so I'm not gonna have to go into that specifically here.
It happens to be a protest song. ...and it borders on the
mathematical, you know, idea of things, and this one specifically
happens to be ... "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" happens to deal with a
minority of, you know, cripples and Orientals and, uh, you know, and
the world in which they live,.... It's another sort of a North Mexican
kind of a thing, uh, very protesty. Very, very protesty. And, uh, one
of the protestiest of all things I ever protested against in my
protest years..."
I don't think this song was being metaphorical after reading that nonsense.

Spring

After today's glorious weather, I was very tempted to just blow off my afternoon classes and read in the JC quad. Perfect weather for relaxing outside with the paper or even a textbook.

I'm growing to love spring more and more as I get older, and It has to do with a lot of things. As a kid, fall was my favorite time of year due to the fact that it was football season and snow days were just around the corner. Now, however, it means cold days and weather going from good to terrible in a matter of weeks.

Spring means cold weather disappearing, more rain (I thoroughly enjoy rain) and baseball season. Now don't get me wrong, Football is still my favorite sport, but Baseball is my job and I enjoy getting paid to be around a sport. Besides, going to baseball games is a lot less expensive than a football game, and did I mention the beautiful weather?

So bring on the amusement parks, the ballparks, and the park parks. Bring on the early Saturday mornings with coffee, newspaper and sunrises. And especially, bring on the Spring.

Vanity License Plates

After a conversation with Bill and Anthony regarding license plates, i decided to take notice on the quantity of them in VA. it's astounding how often they appear on the roads in Northern Virginia.

Some of the favorites of today:

JRZ-GRL = I'm a slut
BAKKOFF = I drive a truck to make myself feel better, nay bigger.
28WEMSU = I make smart sports decisions ie. the Redskins. (it's referring to Darrell Green)
31 = really? and it wasn't a utility vehicle or anything. it was a civic.

more to come, i'm thinking of making a sidebar for this, "stupid vanity plates of virginia"

Taken

Movie Review Time!

Taken (2008)

Main Stars:
Liam Neeson
Maggie Grace
Famke Janssen

First Reaction:
This is a hell of an action movie. With very little plot to distract you from the ass kicking that Bryan Mills (Neeson) lays down on Russian terrorists. If you're looking for a date movie, see something else. Women will not get why this movie is awesome. If you've ever walked out of a theater with an adrenalin rush, prepare for a repeat performance. I had the urge to break something or someone when walking out of this theater. It's that intense.

Plot:
Bryan Mills (Neeson) lives in L.A. so he can be close to his daughter Kim (Grace) who is turning 17. Kim lives with her mother (Janssen) and step father. When Kim and her friend Amanda go to Europe to follow U2, they are abducted in Paris and are sold in to prostitution. Mills, an ex-U.S. government Spy, goes to his daughter's rescue.
The following hour and a half is full of ass kicking and beat downs.

Rating:
With a minimal plot with enough story to keep you in your seat, and enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat, this film is worth the 10 bucks. Though it's not good for a date, it is perfect for a group of guys.

Eyelids

I was think about how human evolution made what we are today, and I think gravity has a huge impact on our eyelids. I know, it sounds weird of me to think that, and it is, I just thought I'd share.

Say we had vertical eye slits. Freaky huh? Now suppose it rains. We'd be screwed! Even if our eyes are closed, there's a good chance we're getting water in there. So, as a natural umbrella, our eyelids are horizontal lines that run parallel to gravity. In this case, when it rains we're protected by the upper lid.

How cool is that! So next time it rains and you're out walkin around without an umbrella, remember that you have two umbrella's on you're face.

Janice Joplin

I don't know what it is, but I cannot stand Janice Joplin. I mean she made great music (apparently) but I just don't enjoy it. She died what, 40 years ago? For some reason I just don't like her music. She sounds good, the lyrics are good i guess. I don't know what it is. Maybe I have a bias against drugged out folk singers.

Did you know that in Don McLean's song American Pie, the woman at the end of the song:
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
is referring to Janice Joplin?

grover!

hilarious.

the english language.

why does car sick have a negative connotation when it follows the same conceptual pattern of the phrase homesick?

i mean, there's no reason for it to be different other than the reality that it is. if i were to be away from my car for a long time, what would i call that? car detached?

and while i'm at it, what about words that have an (in my opinion) unnecessary prefix? entrust vs trust.

I entrust to you the company's assets with faith that you use them appropriately.

I trust to you the company's assets with faith that you use them appropriately.

the english languague pisses me off. everything has two meanings. i believe this is the reason everyone hates us overseas.

nah, it's gotta be more than just that.

Cash for Gold

I don't know but this seems pretty sketchy for me. I mean, you're sending away your jewelry and assuming they will send you back some money? I don't think so. And to add to that, MC Hammer did a commercial for them. Is that some kind of a joke? I'm supposed to take a product/service seriously when endorsed by a man who has zero credibility in this decade? I mean if it were an add for baggy pants or bad haircuts or even an add that makes fun of MC Hammer, then yea maybe. But not something that's already this questionable to begin with.

Come on Cash for Gold. You can do better than that.

Goldeneye

Today I wold like to compare the two icons of the James Bond Franchise that I knew as a kid in the 90's.

Goldeneye 007 the video game for Nintendo 64

and Goldeneye 007 the Movie

First Reactions:

When the movie came out in 1995, It was the first bond movie I ever saw, I was 6. It was awesome. I remember thinking that Pierce Brosnan (at the time I only knew him as Bond, James Bond) was the biggest bad ass in the history of man. Or in my own words of the day, He was super. Years later, a ride at Kings Dominion would relive the movie (that's a stretch), and I couldn't ride it enough. It was my first ride at the park, and I miss it more than ANY other ride in the history of Amusement Parks.

The video game came on the scene two years later in August of 97. That's when the obsession really started. I got a Nintendo 64 Spring of 1998 after pleads from friends telling me how "totally awesome" the games were. Me and my brother both paid for it with our christmas money and birthday money. First games of ours included Diddy Kong Racing, Madden 99 and, of course, Goldeneye 007. I remember playing this in Eric Rooney's basement and then, after copious sugar intake, acted out the multiplayer with toy guns and loud sound effects "BANG BANG I GOT YOU! YOU'RE DEAD, I GOT YOU!" Best N64 game, nay, GAME, of all time.

Ratings:

The movie gets points for nostalgia sake, but when you watch it today, it falls short of "Bond" movies of the age. Sure, I could give it a 10 on the sheer fact that it is the first and very much the favorite for me because, well, it was the first. It was my Bond equivalent of a first date. It is my earliest memory of the god of secret agents. BUT it was not the best of all time. I mean Boris? really? "I am invincible!" Weak villains and weaker Bond Girl attractiveness, xenia onotopp was pretty hot though, gives this movie a 7.5007 rating (out of 10)

The game not only took you through the whole movie, well, the way all movie based games do, leave out parts and stretch small scenes into full levels, but it also had the most memorable multiplayer option of any game before Halo. It had numerous level maps, numerous characters, and the best cheat options I've ever seen. Paintball mode? I didn't even know what paintball was until i played this game. DK mode? This game had the marketing balls to publicize another game within a game. I challenge you to play Slappers only with three of your friends with health on a +10 handicap. You will either be playing all night, or for 10 minutes until you get too frustrated to continue. I give it a 9.007 (out of 10)

Verdict:

Duh. The best video game of all time, versus the movie that could have been based on the video game, and it wouldn't have been any different.
Don't have the game?
Don't have an N64?
Get one. Do it now, I'll wait.

Ok now go play it. I'll wait.

How do you feel? Yea I had to change my tighty whiteys after my first time playing as well.

Fathead

Is there anyway to make a custom Fathead?
A fathead is a wall decoration that sticks using static cling. The website is the link above.

Can you imagine having the ability to design one of these things? What would one put on there? I can imagine some pretty terrible things that should remain unsaid, but what about weird things like the Trix rabbit or Adam West's batman? Or a giant sandwich? Steve-o? Could you make one of yourself? I don't think I could live with that. I giant picture of me staring back at me.. creepy. Maybe if someone was stalking me, but still.

I think I would make a giant door-fathead. Just a door. then I'd screw a door knob into the wall. Awesome.

Wash Rinse Repeat

Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand watching Michael make a fool of himself. It's the same reason I could never watch shows like American Idol where people just embarrass themselves on national television. Just awful.

On to today's topic:

I never wash twice. It's a waste of shampoo. Maybe that's directed to the female users of shampoo, when the advise you repeat, but I think it's just a gimmick to get you to use you more shampoo. Does anyone else think that it's just a terrible cycle? wash, rinse, repeat. wash, rinse, repeat. wash, rinse, repeat. wash, rinse, repeat. etc. It's like that joke we all told (or at least I told) when I was in middle school; Pete and Repeat were sitting on a fence. Pete fell off, who was left? Repeat. Pete and Repeat were sitting on a fence. Pete fell off, who was left? Repeat. etc.

damn shampoo people.

Roller Coasters

The above link takes you to a picture of the first roller coaster I've ever ridden. It's called the Swamp Fox and is located at the Family Kingdom amusement park in Myrtle Beach, SC. When I was under the age of 10, I was deadly terrified of roller coasters. I went to Disney World and refused to ride the rides. Of course I forced on them and I ended up really liking them so, thanks for that Mom and JD.

I think the best roller coasters are of the wooden variety, but I do think that riding a brand new roller coaster that of any kind is probably one of my top 5 favorite things to do in the summer.

The worst part about the life of a roller coaster is the time that it becomes too shaky to ride. That time when it begins to wobble around and give it's riders a headache really makes a coaster aficionado like myself sad. It's like it's getting too old and needs to retire, and we all know what happens to roller coasters when they retire.. so sad.

Tarp Pull

When it rains at the Pfitzner Stadium, There are many different operations.

1 - The tarp can merely moved closer to the third base line just to get it ready for the field. This typically happens on a day where rain is "possible" later in the afternoon, and we are just preparing to cover the field in the even of rain.
This will NOT count as a pull.

2 - The tarp can be rolled out across left field, but not unfolded. This happens for the same reason we would do operation #1, but rain is more likely in this situation, as the sun is probably not out. The tarp CANNOT be on the field when the sun is out, as the grass will burn and discolor.
This will NOT count as a pull.

3 - After performing operation #2, if it appears we do not need the tarp on the field, we will roll it back up and put it back against the wall in the visitor's bullpen.
This WILL count as a pull, as it is the completed action of a tarp going on and off a field.

4 - The tarp can be unrolled and unfolded, or just unfolded from operation #2. This will happen if it is already raining or if we are preparing for imminent rain or at night. At night, we would perform this operation because there is a chance (50% or greater) that it will rain overnight AND we have a game the next day.
This WILL count as a pull.

5 - The tarp is on the field, and there is an excess of water on the surface. We need to perform what's called a "dump" and remove the water from the tarp. This action is one of the more difficult.
This WILL count as a pull.

6 - The tarp is on the field, and there is not an excess of water on the surface. We need to remove the tarp from the field, the operation of folding it and rolling it up is the final step.
This WILL count as a pull.

7 - In the event that the tarp needs to be dumped, then removed, It will count as one pull.
This WILL count as a pull.

If there is an unprecedented circumstance, I will address the situation as it comes.

Playlist

So the playlist below is a pretty good one I must say. I suggest that you take a few of the songs you aren't completely familiar with and putting them into youtube to see what you get. I'm sure you know a lot of them, if not all of them. I think you would enjoy.

I have quite a bit of studying to do tonight, so I must be going, but I hope that you have a good 'ol time doing what ever it is that you do.

2.08.2009

Facebook

I've decided to take a facebook hiatus. Mainly because I spend a bit of my time on it and obsessively checking it on a regular basis. It'll be good for me to go cold turkey. I'm rewarding myself with something TBD if I make it to the end of the month (gasp) without signing on. In the meantime, I hope to increase my study habits a smidge, or play a touch more video games, we'll see what happens.

So for now I will write sarcastic entries in here, always wondering if I am truly talking to myself. I think I like not knowing. The idea of there being some people (or possibly just a person) out there reading this drivel is quite a thought, but maybe not knowing either way eliminates the let down of knowing the number of visitors is zero.

Here's to more drivel coming your way!

2.07.2009

Top picture

That counts as content for a day!!!

Also, notice the tarp pull counter on the right, as well as the updated playlist.

I'll come up for the rules of the tarp counter in the future. What constitutes a pull?

iTunes that you haven't listened to in a long time.

Today I would like to praise my iTunes. Not for playing the music that I listen to most everyday, but for showing me what music I haven't listened to for over a year.

Thank you iTunes. You reintroduced me to some older songs that I will add to a playlist. I now have a greater respect for what you do.

Jelly

I have a problem with jelly. The sugars in it make it way to sticky, so if you're making a PBJ, be careful.

Ok yea I really don't have a problem with jelly. It's one of my favorite things to put on bread, and it's absolutely phenomenal on a bagel with cream cheese.

My real issue is with the people who design the jars they come in. The substance is something that is almost impossible to spread on a sandwich as it is, but to put in a jar is torture. How am I supposed to get it out of there? A spoon? Then I have to spread it with something other than the spoon, and I'm not a fan of doing dishes.

The solution, the geniuses who made the squeeze bottle jelly. They deserve some kind of medal.

West Coast TV

I found myself asking the following question the other night,
If you live on the west coast and follow prime time television like Lost or 24, do you get to see the shows on TV at the same time as the east coast or do you have to wait an extra three hours?

It bugged me, so I had to find out. I considered calling a friend of mine, Chris Fisher, and asking him. I also considered asking friends of mine who live on the East coast but at some point in the past, lived on the West.

Then I remembered the Internet!

Apparently, the shows you see on the East Coast at anytime of the day, are on a three hour tape delay for California and the rest of the West coast states. How much would that suck? I mean, do you have to watch a tape delay version of the ball dropping on New Years? What's the point? I'd rather watch a ball drop from the Space Needle than something from the stinky-old East coast.

But Sporting Events are played live, so how awesome would it be to wake up at 10 am to see a football game? or if you lived in Hawaii, 8 am!!!

Sweatpants in Public.

When is it appropriate, and when does it look like you're a slob?

Trick question; it's rarely "appropriate" and you hardly ever DON'T look like a slob. That's just the way it is.

Examples:

1) College campuses during the day, in classes.
Not appropriate, you look like a slob.
I must state that when girls wear this article of clothing, it's a whole different look. That's a fashion matter, so for purposes of discussion let's exclude them from this section.
It's college people. We know you have SOME money. I don't care what you look like, or who you are, put on some real pants. Invest in something that's not made of cotton. It's worth it in the long run. You look like you just rolled out of bed, and as far as I know, that "look" went out a little while ago.

2) College campuses at night, about 11pm-anything before first classes.
Appropriate, you still look like a slob.
At this time, you are not frowned upon if you're wearing sweatpants around campus. It's night time and you're a college kid. Unless it's a weekend, you're perfectly able to rock this look without being thought of as a complete hobo.
Ladies, it's always ok for you to wear it as long as you look good in it. That's the rule of thumb. If you make a guy look you up and down for a hot second and they don't go "meh" than it's ok.

3) the real world, any time of day.
Not appropriate, you look like a complete moron.
I include everyone in this category, including Plaxico Burress (was that really 3 months ago?)
Don't do it. Unless you're living on the streets, you shouldn't be wearing sweatpants in public. It screams "I give up, this is the best I'm gonna do," like you wouldn't believe.

Now please, take this advice and make wise decisions about sweatpants.
It's for you're own good.

Rain and puddles

It hasn't rained in a while, so this post is not necessarily about precipitation. It is more directed towards the puddles that occur on sidewalks/paved areas after a bought of rain or of ice melting. I believe a lot can be learned about the slope and warped areas of a pathway at a school or at a place of business when you are wearing nice shoes and there are puddles everywhere.

I hate puddles at these times.

Earlier, I had said something about walking in the "grass" areas when there is ice to avoid slicker areas. This DOES NOT hold true after the ice melts or it rains. I avoid non-paved areas at all costs when it rains. It's like a death trap if you're wearing anything but bare feet or hiking boots. I have one (1) pair of black dress shoes, and I've had them for at least 6 years. I need to keep them as clean as possible (because a new pair is expensive and cleaning an old pair takes effort, of which I have none).

So in conclusion, I like the rain, but I probably would need to invest in better footwear if I lived in or frequented an environment in which wetness is a constant factor.

super LAME!

yea i wanted the cardinals to win, buuuut we can't always get what we want.
i think the steelers didn't play to their potential (where was willy parker in the second half?) and the cardinals played above and beyond what everyone expected of them. the refs called the game the way they wanted it and that was for the steelers. a lot of bad no-calls and bad calls. so the steelers have 6, but two of them (feb '06 and feb '09) will always stick out to me as the games the refs decided.

best commercial; none.

none of them stood out to me, but a lot of them were great. i respect NBC for not running the same spots over and over and over again.

F**k-day

August and I went to DC on saturday, and we did a lot of walking. the longest trip (about two miles) was completely useless but fun nonetheless.

geometry in nature.

So i never really thought about slopes and inclines that much outside of the classroom. In the last week however, it snowed and iced. I have been contemplating the steepness of ramps and the slick ice on the surface. I now know most of the inclines on this campus and how I should and should not walk on those surfaces.

For example,

I avoid walking down slopes when they are slick. If I can help it, I walk down stairs or walk on the flat sidewalks and go through buildings when I need to go down to the east end of campus.

On the other side, I prefer to walk all together on the "grassy" areas because they are less slick. Even if these areas are all ice, they are a little more doable than the sidewalks with black ice on them.

I think overall, I enjoy snow and ice pretty well. I like rain better, but I don't mind snow and ice as other things.

Kevin Simpson

Kevin passed away Friday evening as a result of a drunk driving accident. Today was his funeral and I was unable to attend it because of my class load. I wanted to use this space today to dedicate my sadness of his loss to the community and to show how much we will all miss him.

Back to regularly scheduled musings tomorrow.

Snuggy.

Fancy Pants Adventure

This game is probably the most fun on Addicting Games for me, if not yours it will deff have the best music on there. Headphones or speakers if your playing, if not then dont bother.

Ginger Kids

Frogs

Now I could really take any topic and go on and on about it, but I have a problem with frogs. What the fuck is their deal? I mean, they jump everywhere. You'd think those legs could carry their weight and some walking wood go down in the frog community. Then again if I could jump that far, maybe that's all I would do.
But consider the fact that if we ran everywhere, we'd get tired in about 15 minutes at the VERY latest. I'd personally keel over after 5-6 minutes of light jogging.

So why do they always jump? is jumping their form of running? Is it relative?

Sprint = Super far jump
Jog = Relatively far jump
Walk = Hop

I think the frogs need to get their shit together and start walking places. Maybe they'd be able to avoid the trucks if they did.

make-up!!!!

Psych has become one of my favorite shows. I am looking forward to the next dvd release.

Kung Fu movies

why are they always dubbed? shouldn't they just be subtitled? maybe it's because the action is the focus and you're not supposed to be reading the script. but then again, how often is there intense dialogue during a fight scene?

and how funny would it be for a subtitle of this scene to be written during a scene where too people are fighting in a steel factory:

man - "i know you slept with my sister, now you must die!"
woman - "it is not i who must die, it is you. you are delusional and believe you have a sister!"
man - "what do you mean? i am a llama and you are my grains! of course i am speaking metaphorically."
woman - "ayayayayayayaya"

well. that's enough of that.

Nightvision

Who the hell decided we should be able to see at night? and when I think about it, whenever someone is using nightvision, they're being evasive. So is nightvision only for fighting? what other instances would nightvision be used? Maybe if there were some good things that could come out of nightvision then I wouldn't care so much. But as far as I know, there isn't any so to hell with nightvision. and why is it always green? why can't it be blue? or red? Green's my favorite color but there has to be some explanation to why it's green and not purple.

Stupid nighvision.

Motivation

Beginning of classes for me tomorrow, So for tonight my entry will be short. I have to read 5 syllabi (is that correct?) by tomorrow morning and some stuff out of my book.

"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going."
--Jim Rohn

I think this applies greatly with anyone's life. I read once that you needed to do something for two weeks straight before it becomes a habit. I like that thought. Do you think that if I pick my nose every day at around 4:00 pm, I'll be tempted to do it without even thinking about it two weeks later? I hope not.

Motivation is a great tool. If I'm motivated enough, I could reorganize my dorm, tonight. You could also say that if I was motivated enough, I could jump out of my window (ow..) or join a cult. No one wants that.

1.20.2009

Meal Plans

The least expensive meal plan at GMU for the Spring 09 semester is $1550. That is outrageous. That's about 112 days in a semester, or about $13 a day. If I eat twice a day (which is about right) than I get 6.50 per meal. This all sounds reasonable, BUT I'm not here at school every day of the semester for two meals.

It should be about $1200 a semester. That would make a hell of a lot more sense.

Sigh.

1.19.2009

Bacon

Bacon is my favorite food.

For years, and about two days now I have been toiled with the question, "What, sir, is you're favorite food?"

Today I now know that it is bacon. Bacon has always been there for me. It will NEVER leave me. It is my anti-drug.

Bacon is a cut of meat taken from the sides, belly, or back of a pig that has been cured, smoked, or both. Bacon may be eaten fried, baked, or grilled, or used as a minor major ingredient to flavor dishes. Or to flavor Coca-Cola*. The word is derived from the Old High German bacho, meaning "back", "ham", or "bacon". The USDA defines bacon as "the cured belly of a swine carcass"; other cuts and characteristics must be separately qualified (e.g., "smoked pork loin bacon").

In continental Europe, bacon is used primarily in cubes (lardons) as a cooking ingredient, valued both as a source of fat and for its flavour. In Italy, bacon is called pancetta and usually cooked in small cubes or served uncooked and thinly sliced as part of an antipasto. Bacon is also used for barding and larding roasts, especially game birds. Many people prefer to have bacon smoked using various types of woods or turf. This process can take up to ten hours depending on the intensity of the flavour desired.

Bacon is our lord and savior. Peace be with you.

Bunk Beds

Which is better? Top or Bottom?

Argument for the Top:

1) When guests come in your room, they almost always go for the seat that is the bottom bunk. If you have the top bunk, you don't have guys with sweaty asses sitting on your bed.

2) When you get out of bed to take a piss and get ready for class, you're less likely to fall back into bed and fall asleep.

3) The top bunk was the one you LOVED when you were a kid. Nostalgia points.

Argument for the Bottom:

1) The opposite situation for the top, when a chick comes in, she sits on your bed, you sit next to her and make a joke about where the magic happens and yea.

2) If your roommate has the bottom and he's jerkin the chicken, you're going along for the ride. All the more reason to take the bottom and make him jerk the chicken in the bathroom.

3) Easier to get a date on the bottom bunk. Try convincing you're girl that tonight's the night and you gotta climb up a ladder. Buzz kill.

If it's me, I vote against bunk beds all together. It makes for a great space saving experience but it's not great for everything else.

Roof hopping

I have now been on 5 roofs of this campus. Enterprise, Research 2, Academic, SUB II, and Old Campus.

Below is a map of my hoppings. The Red building indicate the roofs in which I have traversed.

My favorite was probably SUB II because it's the easiest to do and I don't need to worry about locked or unlocked doors.

But, you have to climb. That sucks.

Oh well!

1.16.2009

Back at school

I wish they would remake Back to the Future. NOT because i think it would be a worth while movie experience, but because i'd like to see how they would do it. the entire series is one of the most amazing movie series of all time and i feel it deserves some cheesy recognition.

who would play marty? doc?
einstein? oh wow. that's depressing. that dog probably died years ago.
biff? Jenny? didn't two people play jenny in the original series? they should do that this time too. that would be hilarious. especially if it was obvious.

i also think they should keep the time periods the same. even though "present day" in that movie is 1985. it would be an interesting perspective to see it from that pov from today's minds on a national scale. i know some people who don't even know what back to the future is. that's sad.

well i'll be back lata.

Warm Comfort

There's nothing I find more relaxing than the winter.

Yea, I just said that. So what.

Here me out; in the winter, it is cold out. In the winter, you turn the heat on and/or you build a fire in the fireplace. So there is nothing more relaxing to me than the winter.

Today I layed on the couch after dinner with Norman (my dog) cuddling with me and sleeping. I had finished a tall mug of hot milk chocolate (rasberry flavored, oh yes) and dinner, which tonight was Lasagna and Ravioli. I couldn't have been more satisfied.

Me, the dogs (Norman on me, Leinie on the floor, and Duke in his chair), and Mom were watching Two and a Half Men when I passed out on the couch. Greatest feeling in the world to sleep like that.

Make-up Post part two

continue this post as post number two so I can count it as two posts. muhahaha

I'm thinking about starting an a capella group at mason BUT i don't have a lot of free time during the season so i don't think it's doable. but how freaking fun would that be?!?! and i'm pretty good so yea. no big deal.

Today i would like to talk about bumper stickers.

First, a bumper sticker (in my opinon) is defined as follows:
A printed message that is afixed to one's car via glue or sticky stuff that is factory placed on the back of said message. A static cling does not count as a bumper sticker.

I personally feel bumper stickers take away from the car's overall value. It scratches up the paint if you try to take it off and it looks bad when it's on there, so why do people feel the need to put them on there cars? I can understand if you have an old clunker that you've driven for about 130,000 miles but not if you have a porsce or scion or even a nice honda civic. that's just wrong.

So, i propose that bumper stickers (by my definition) be banned from all nice cars NO MATTER WHAT they say. I dont care how funny or witty or pithy or charming you think it makes you or your car, it's not right. get rid of it and by yourself some paint for the chips you'll knock off.

by the way, if you purchase a used car that already has bumper stickers on them (as i did) I recommend using WD-40 to get rid of the adhesive. it worked like a charm for me.

Make-Up Post

So I couldn't post anything yesterday, so here's one of two for the 14th of January.

Went to dinner with steph then showed here the campus last night. I really like exploring my campus when there's no one around. All the buildings are unlocked at night, so i pretty much have free range to go anywhere. Last night we visited the fine arts building. we saw the sculpture studio and a painting studio. it was pretty sweet. here's a pic i took from the painting studio:

So yea it's pretty bangin.

Basketball Game and New Old Jersey's

I went to the Wizards v Bucks game tonight, soo much fun even though they lost. I wore an old basketball jersey that my dad got when he was in high school (roughly 1974-6). It is a nice old blue with yellow trim and numbers with green/blue/yellow checker pattern on the in seam. It looks amazing and I'll post a pic when I get my computer back (it's at school and i'm not).

The cheerleaders or dance team or whatever they're called at the wizards game tonight were incredibly attractive. Why aren't there cheerleaders for baseball? I could get into this basketball thing. good god they were nice.

When I got home, I found another new old jersey in the mailbox, I had ordered a blank Minnesota North Stars Jersey from Ebay last week and it already arrived. I also ordered a patch that I can sew on there so that will also be posted later when I can.

For now, I leave you with pics of the ladies on the court.

So after my first night of sleeping on campus, I've come to realize that i sleep 1000x better here than I do at home. I think that's because there's less light but it may be something as little as the bed or the pillows or even the sheets.

It was glorious!

so i am now dreading the semester a little less now that I know I can sleep pretty well AND be awoken by an alarm.

so i leave you with my picks for today's games (NFL)

Eagles over Giants and they'll beat the 2 point spread

Steelers over Chargers and it'll be closer than 3 points.

Uncle Slam

There are 9 pieces to the Uncle Slam suit.

Head
Jacket
Left hand
Right Hand
Body
Left sock
Right sock
Left shoe
Right Shoe

Everyone of them gets disgusting after a mascot appearance.

And I always ALWAYS get a headache after the appearance.

Now, I go to DC and have fun time with August. Not a long visit though, as it is raining outside...

ibuprofen... thank you.

Me one, you nothing.

New stuff on the right side of this page, it's the current standings of our office competition between Peter, Andrew and myself.
The object of the competition is to increase sales calls among the three of us. The person with the most calls by the end of the day gets the "win" for the day, the other two get a "loss". It's pretty much baseball style standings if you know how that works.

I won today with a total of 45 calls, peter had 42 and big sexy had 17. ouch.

another post tomorrow (duh) and soon there will be an all picture post of my trip to DC.

::seacrest out:: <-- eric, it's not funny.

Travel spots

I've always liked traveling. I think it's because I don't do a heck of a lot of it. I've been to Ireland twice, Orlando three times, Key West twice, Tampa, Minneapolis, Niagra, Atlanta, and Dallas once, and finally Outer Banks North Carolina roughly 16 times.

Ok so maybe I have traveled a bunch.

My dream spots are as followed, in no definitive order but Seattle is probably the only place I have considered living/working.

Seattle, Washington
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
New York City, New York
Los Angeles, California
San Francisco, California
Miami, Florida
Detroit, Michigan
Chicago, Illinois
Indianapolis, Indiana
Toronto, Ontario
Quebec, Quebec
Vancouver, Vancouver

Off the Continent:
London, England
Prague, Czech Republic
Madrid, Spain
Barcelona, Spain
Paris, France
Rome, Italy
Vatican City, Rome
Venice, Italy
Athens, Greece
Knossos, Crete
Mycenae, Greece
Tokyo, Japan
Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Beijing, China

So yea. That's where I wanna go.

Good Eats

Good Eats is a television show hosted by Alton Brown.

Why the fuck does his show only come on at 2 in the morning? I'm busy at the 7:00 airing. I mean come on!

Damn.

It's like the best cooking show EVER and it's only on at two times of the day and neither are very conducive to my schedule. fuck.

click the title for an EXCELLENT playlist of this show on youtube. Well worth the 20 minutes of boredom spent.

WHO THE FUCK KNEW KING CRABS WERE THAT BIG? shit.

Anonymity

The concept of anonymity is quite a strange thing. I have, and I'm sure you agree. Let me explain.

First off, I'm not referring to the anti-scientology group. I'm referring to the concept. For a definition, click the title.

I like the ability to communicate ideas under the condition of anonymity, for instance an anonymous tip to police in the case where you protect your identity from criminals. If one has the capability to help the community and themselves, why not do it?

I do not completely understand the anonymous donation though. Say AT&T is donating $10,000 to a university so they can build a new communications wing or update communications throughout campus. Why would they anonymously do this? What's wrong with the publicity? Is there a tax right off for giving a donation? Do they not want the attention; so they don't have to give every university a donation?

In some cases "anonymous" is misused. Or at least I think so. Would it be incorrect to say that a quote said by an unknown person is anonymous? Wouldn't unknown be more fitting? The person who said the quote surely didn't prefer that they be left anonymous; which, I thought, was a condition of anonymity.

Unnecessary Sequals

They blow. I mean, what's the fucking point?

First off, you don't need to revisit an old movie to make tons of money. Hollywood studios need to know by now that original ideas are worth the risk. They pay off big. Just look at novels adapted to screenplays, Twilight, Harry Potter, Narnia, and most recently Benjamin Button.

I understand the risk of putting out a movie that is new (to the movie goers) but it's better than this crap.

Teen Wolf too. -- I thought the first one was bad enough
Anything after American Wedding (American Pie Series) -- I mean the trilogy was a stretch to begin with. Fuck that was annoying.
Legally Blonde 2 -- I'm honestly surprised Witherspoon signed on for this gem.
Speed 2 -- I thought it was pretty good, but it's just too damn easy to make fun of.
Disney sequals -- Hol y shit there's too many to name. Check them here and here

That is all.

On the second day..

Officially licensed video games.

Why on earth is EA sports allowed to purchase the rights to the NFL and the NFLPA? I mean 2K sports made a much better game, and the franchise of football is too great to be made by one developer. It's not fair in my opinion.

--Graphics--
The Madden franchise has some pretty impressive graphics today. The '09 versions are stunning visuals compared to the '99 that I have on N64. This seems to be the main proponent for all Madden praisers in the debate. Let's compare these stills from EA's "Madden 2005" and 2K's "ESPN NFL 2K5"

Madden '05

and ESPN NFL 2K5

So as you can see, neither graphics are superior. That would be the only thing the Madden Franchise has going for it.

Winner: draw

--Uniform Capabilities--

Madden '05:
Each team comes with a home and an away as well as the ability to make a custom uniform. The latter feature was reportedly riddled with problems and many people thought the programmers rushed the feature to production.

ESPN 2K5:
Each team comes with a home and an away as well as 3 alternates, in many cases throwbacks to older looks/franchises (see Houston Oilers/Texans)

Winner: ESPN 2K5

--Gameplay--

Madden '05:
Franchise mode with a player's morale affecting in game performance. The introduction of the hit-stick was an addition to Madden '05 as well as the "playmaker" feature. New "Create-a-Fan" mode was added so that the user could create a fan to have put in the stands based on their favorite team. And finally the "Storyline Central" feature was added so that you could newspapers of you're home team and stay up-to-date with in-game stats.

ESPN 2K5:
Chris Berman does voice work for this year. He does a pre-, post-, and halftime show for each game with a virtual Berman sitting at the news desk.  New "V.I.P." mode tracks you're playing style as well as pit's you against celebrity teams (Carmen Electra's "Shock" is the first opponent). Later, you have the option of playing against yourself. The V.I.P. mode comes with the Crib, which was not new, but boosted in the 2K5 version. You have you're own house to customize and fill with trophies of you're achievements. Finally, the 2K5 version was ESPN's 25th Anniversary, this included the ability to replay historical football games or moments. Something that was featured in the Madden '09 game.

Winner: clearly 2K5.

--Soundtrack--

Madden '05:

ESPN 2K5:
customizable. you can add you're own songs to be played after a TD, INT, Fumble, Random, etc. As well as Menu music.

Winner: without a doubt ESPN 2K5.

So why was EA sports allowed to buy the NFL license when ESPN 2K series was WAAAY superior?

New Year, new format.

Here's how it works:

This is my blog, I talk about whatever it is I wanna talk about. I only promise to have at least 7 entries a week (one per day but if I can't make it one day, I'll have two the next).

Charades.

First of all, I had to look up the spelling for the word. Never had to write it down before. Which makes sense, it's not like I'm spelling Pictionary.

So why is it people still play this game? I tried it today and let me tell you, I never knew how stupid my friends were. That seems to be the running theme of every game of charades, "How fucking stupid are you? THIS (waving arms around) does NOT mean baking a cake. You FUCKING retard!"

I got the word poison. If my brother was not on my team, I would have been sucking on my leg for the whole 1 minute before I scream at the top of my lungs that it was poison. We seem to have a connection. You know, finish each other's sentences and such. I like it.

The other thing about charades is that there's always a total douche in the room who thinks it's a good idea to yell at the top of his lungs the same thing over and over again instead of calmly stating, "Uh gee is it Shawshank Redemption?" I hate that guy. It wasn't right the first time, and why on earth would it be Shawshank Redemption. Idiot.

I like the game of charades, but I think there needs to be a set rule of what word or phrases can go in the hat or whatever. The word "eggshell" should be banned from all games of charades. That and the movie "How Stella Got Her Groove Back". That was the worst 60 seconds of my life.

Hiatus

Due to the Exam Schedule and the schedule of events I have in the coming week, I will not be posting any new entries for at least a week.

I will be back in time for a Thanksgiving preview early next week, and MAYBE a power ranking that is inclusive of week 12.

Wish me luck.
